Sixth grade mathematics focuses on integers, fractions, decimals, percents and algebraic thinking skills. There will be at least two quizzes and a chapter test per chapter. We are using the
interactive books in the classroom and utilizing the ActivBoard daily. Students each have log-in names and passwords so that they can access the book from any computer. We will also be integrating the iPads in to the curriculum as appropriate. There are apps that will help us focus on integers and give immediate feedback to the students about their progress. We will also be using
ALEKS this year. ALEKS is a self-paced instructional math website. There will be continued assessments this year. We try our best to meet every students needs to make sure that we make math fun and educational.
In science, we will be studying Human Biology. There are a variety of hands-on activities to supplement the text we'll be using. We will be dissecting sheep brains, hearts, lungs, kidneys, and cow eyes!! We will also be making 3-D cells to learn all of the parts. We also use the iPads to help us learn how the cell cycle works, learning parts of the skeleton and learn about different parts of the brain. We will be doing a flash animation on the digestive system and solving a crime scene with forensic evidence! We want science to be a fun environment that excites the students. We use the same interactive books that we do in math so science comes alive.
