“Throughout our 50 year history, Saint Andrew’s has always emphasized character and citizenship and Amy is an exemplary example of both,” said Harry V. McKay Jr., Head of School, Saint Andrew’s Episcopal School. “On behalf of the entire school, I congratulate Amy and her family on earning this honor.”

Andrew’s student from 1987 to1995. The Discovery Award was inspired by Geoffrey’s exceptional citizenship, his sensitivity to fellow students and teachers alike, his inquisitive nature, and his eagerness to learn about the world through travel and exploration with his family.
During a chapel ceremony and reception held today at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal School, Amy received a personalized travel journal and will be the keeper of a didgeridoo that has been passed down each year by the award recipient. The trip to Australia will allow Amy to gain an understanding of the people, culture, history, and natural environment of the country. She will have the opportunity to spend several days at the Tara Anglican School for Girls in New South Wales to meet and study with girls her age. Upon her return, Amy will share what she learned and experienced with her classmates.
“I have watched Amy since I had the joy of teaching her,” said one of her nominators. “She quietly impresses me with her thoughtfulness and kindness to others – adults, peers and younger children. I feel that Amy truly exemplifies our CHARACTER COUNTS!® program through her life daily. She is there to help without being asked, knows the meaning of friendship, is always respectful and shares her time with a smile.”
