Stand up for what you believe in! That's the message that students heard
throughout Masankho Banda's presentation this morning on African and
African American History. Kicking off Black History Month at Saint
Andrew's, Masankho used a combination of storytelling, singing and dance
to discuss the similarities between the Civil Rights Movement of the
1960s here and the protests against apartheid in South Africa. Students
sang, dance and engaged in a lively question and answer time with
Masankho. He shared how faith played an important part in the
protestors' ability to persevere and challenged each student to stand up
for what they know to be right today and for all their days.
Masankho presented three sessions today: with the Middle School students, with grades Pre-K through second and with the third through fifth graders.
