Girls on the Run of Silicon Valley (Grades 3rd through 5th)

About Our Organization:
We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving girls in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. We are a self-funded, independent council of Girls on the Run International, which has 220 Councils across the United States.

Our mission:
We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Girls on the Run is an elementary level program. Through fun running games, activities, and workouts, our program teaches girls life skills, equip them with tools for navigating the world, and prepare them to complete the end-of season Girls on the Run 5K.

Our History and Growth:
Girls on the Run of Silicon Valley was founded in 2002 as the first Girls on the Run council in California. Since then, we have served more than 10,000 girls in our community. In 2016, 2,070 girls completed our programs at 92 sites thanks to the guidance and dedication of 460 volunteer couches. We anticipate serving close to 2,300 girls at over 100 sites in 2017.

Girls on the Run 5k:
The Girls on the Run 5K is the culminating event of the season. All program participants and coaches-along with family, friends and community members-come together to run/walk 3.1 celebratory miles in and around Vasona Lake County, Park in Los Gatos.
