Saint Andrews Center is substantially complete, awaiting only City Planning approvals to occupy. The Hall is a bee-hive of activity: basketball hoops are in, sound equipment for the stage is almost complete, kitchen equipment in the last stages of hook-up for plumbing and electrical, and the sports floor is set for installation next week.
(Status from 7/26/06): Concrete curbs and sidewalks are being poured to frame the landscape islands in the parking lot, and make it much easier to get around the campus. Saint Andrews Center is complete and waiting for City approval to occupy. Saint Andrews Hall is in the final push to the finish line: installing light fixtures, scoreboards, etc.
(Status from 7/19/06): Rock and curb now define our new parking lot. Saint Andrews Center is in the last stages of completion, and should be ready for use within the next 10 days. Saint Andrews Hall is huge, and it, too, is receiving finishing touches including lights, plumbing fixtures, scoreboards, etc.
(Status from 7/12/06): The kitchens at Saint Andrews Center and Hall are almost complete. Our contractor is really cooking! The push to complete both buildings is in full stride. The site work, which includes a new parking lot, landscaping, and lighting, is approximately 50% complete. The portable facility at Crestbrook field is gone, and its replacement building, Saint Andrews Hall, is a beehive of contruction activity.
(Status from 6/28/06): The rumble of heavy equipment has replaced the sounds of children as our contractor is in full swing to rebuild the parking lot, temporarily creating Mount Saint Andrews. New utility pipes, landscaping and parking lot lights are next in line. The plaza area between the Great Oak and Saint Andrews Center is also well underway, with new concrete and brick pavers being installed.
(Status from 6/21/06): School is out and the portables in the parking lot are gone. Major site work is under way, including final utility connections, a new parking lot, and new landscaping. The final site work and landscaping at Saint Andrews Center is also taking shape, with the inclusion of a new ADA ramp from the Sanctuary to the Center.
(Status from 6/14/06): Our look is changing. The school portables are on the way out, making room to start the rest of the site development work. The site work includes a new parking lot, enhanced lighting and new landscaping. Underground work and concrete sidewalks are now in full construction mode at both Saint Andrews Center and Hall.
(Status from 6/07/06): Paint, roofing, ceramic tile work and waterproofing are in full swing at Saint Andrews Hall. The final design of the entry area in front of Saint Andrews Center is done. An ADA access ramp from the Sanctuary to Saint Andrews Center, landscaping and concrete work for sidewalks will begin immediately.
(Status from 5/31/06): Tar pots pump and roofing paper is rolled as the final weather proofing is installed on Saint Andrews Hall. The play area at Saint Andrews Center is underway with concrete blocks forming a retaining wall, with grading operations to follow, creating this dedicated area for small children.
(Status from 5/24/06): Paint, glazing, roofs and concrete: all these events are happening at both Saint Andews Center and Saint Andrews Hall, as we begin the final push towards completion of construction. Both buildings are continually filled with the sounds of construction workers, all day long, in a carefully orchestrated dance to the finish line.
(Status from 5/17/06): Final site work around Saint Andrews Center is beginning. It includes concrete for the plaza, new landscaping, laying brick in the walkway under the building canopy, and the replacement of pavers under The Oak Tree. While work at Center has been quiet lately, the work at Saint Andrews Hall has not. Stucco walls are being sprayed, roof paper is being laid, concrete is being poured for the stage floor, and sheetrock is being hung and taped. In addition, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and kitchen work are all going on at the same time.
(Status from 5/10/06): Grading work is wrapping up around Saint Andrews Center, with a new block retaining wall, concrete sidewalks, and pavers underway. The stucco scratch coat on Saint Andrews Hall is being sprayed on the exterior, as interior work is in full swing with 30 to 40 construction workers hanging sheetrock, installing ducts, etc.
(Status from 5/03/06): Between 40 and 60 construction workers are busy every work day welding, nailing and digging; putting the finishing touches on Saint Andrews Center, and closing in Saint Andrews Hall. Electric raceways and heating and air conditioning ducts are also being installed.
(Status from 4/26/06): The current water line installation for the fire alarm system--and no rain--is accelerating the completion of Saint Andrews Center. Walls and roofing are going into place to close up Saint Andrews Hall, allowing interior finish work to start.
(Status from 4/19/06): The clanging of steel, the arc of welding, and the drilling of metal studs: the sights and sounds of construction replaced the sounds of school children during Easter Recess week. Work on both Saint Andrews Center & Hall are in high gear, as we enter the final stretch towards finishing.
(Status from 4/12/06): Fire-proofing the steel structure of Saint Andrews Hall is now complete. Saint Andrews Center continues to take on it's final interior look, as flooring, ceramic tile, and ceilings are installed.
(Status from 4/05/06): Neither rain, sleet, nor snow is keeping the work from progressing on Saint Andrews Center and Hall. Floor coverings and fixtures are being installed at the Center, while steel stud framing is underway at Saint Andrews Hall, between the rain showers.
(Status from 3/29/06): The rains keep coming, but progress marches on with no slow down on the interior work at Saint Andrews Center. In spite of the wet weather, welding sparks still fly at Saint Andrews Hall.
(Status from 3/17/06): Ceilings, paint, tile and doors: the interior finishes for Saint Andrews Center are coming together as work on the exterior starts to wrap up. Saint Andrews Hall roof and walls are starting. The concrete floors for the classrooms--which, in the future, will become Sunday School rooms--are already poured.
(Status from 3/10/06): Saint Andrews Center has all the interior sheetrock hung and taped. The stucco exterior scratch coat is also installed. Saint Andrews Hall looks like a giant erector set, with metal structure and decking being welded into place.
(Status from 3/03/06): Interior drywall installation is well underway at Saint Andrews Center, with exterior work keeping pace with interior work. The steel lattice of Saint Andrews Hall is in place, with metal decking for classrooms and roof being spread and welded in place.
(Status from 2/24/06): All of the 95 long steel roof trusses, spanning the width of Saint Andrews Hall, are in place. Welding and bolting work continues to tighten the frame. Interior sheetrock is being hung in Saint Andrews Center, now that all the doors and windows are installed.
(Status from 2/17/06): Interior sheetrock is being installed on the inside, while windows and doors are being hung on Saint Andrews Center. Leveling, plumbing, and welding of the steel superstructure are in full swing at Saint Andrews Hall.
(Status from 2/10/06): Sunny weather equals lots of construction activity. The roofing on Saint Andrews Center is almost complete, with window and door installation next in line, followed by the stucco walls. Steel has risen, outlining the shape of Saint Andrews Hall and giving definition to the interior spaces including the stage, kitchen, restroom/locker areas, as well as the new classrooms at the parking lot level.
(Status from 2/03/06): The piles of dirt have been removed to make way for the crane. Like an erector set, piece by piece the steel is lifted in the air to be bolted and welded together, giving strength and connection for the roof and walls of the new Saint Andrews Hall. Work progresses on Saint Andrews Center with window and door installation, closing in the building so sheetrock work can start.
(Status from 1/27/06): The piles of dirt and rock have been growing steadily over the past 2 weeks, but are now being taken out to make way for the steel erection crane. Interior and exterior work is proceeding on schedule at Saint Andrews Center, as rough-in for both electrical and plumbing continues, along with the roof installation.
(Status from 1/20/06): Underground work continues across the plaza area, connecting Saint Andrews Center to the primary storm drain line, while the countdown clock for receiving structural steel winds down. The crane is expected on site Monday, January 23rd, with erection commencing immediately for the superstructure of Saint Andrews Hall.
(Status from 1/10/06): Our contractor is still digging trenches--to fix Lake Saint Andrews in the front plaza area, as well as take storm water from Saint Andrews Center and the Church to a new sand/oil filter, prior to draining off. Plumbing and electrical rough-in work continues on Saint Andrews Center, as the exterior skin and roof work starts.
(Status from 1/03/06): Construction was anything but quiet during the Christmas holidays. New utility lines were dug and installed for the Saint Andrews Center, which will eventually connect with those coming from the Saint Andrews Hall. Interior rough-in work continues on the Center, with good weather now allowing the start of the exterior skin.
(Status from 12/21/05): A very large grease interceptor was placed in it's hole, next to the new kitchen at the Saint Andrews Hall, to serve the future dining needs of the Parish & School. Fire sprinkler work started on the Saint Andrews Center, as all exterior and interior wall framing is substantially complete.
(Status from 12/14/05): Wood framing continues on Saint Andrews Center, with roofing starting within the next 2 weeks. Underground storm drain trenching will start in the next 7 days, beginning near Saratoga Creek, taking particular care to avoid damage to tree roots along our west property line.
(Status from 12/7/05): The roof structure is almost complete at Saint Andrews Center and some of its rooms are now defined by walls as construction continues. The last of the concrete slab at Saint Andrews Hall is finished, as the kitchen area was poured on Monday December 5, 2005.
(Status from 11/30/05): The weather has been kind to us; even with the rains, past and projected, we are in good condition to continue building. Framing work progresses at Saint Andrews Center, as our contractor starts the process of waterproofing and back-filling the shot-crete wall at Saint Andrews Hall.
(Status from 11/23/05): The concrete boom didn't roar, but pumped concrete in great quantities from the upper parking lot level to the lower level of Saint Andrews Hall. The walls at Saint Andrews Center continue to grow also as we enjoy unseasonably dry and warm November weather.
(Status from 11/16/05): There is a temporary "beach" at the new Saint Andrew's Hall, with the placement of many tons of sand that forms one layer of many under the new slab. The concrete "waves" will cover this over during the next several days. Saint Andrew's Center has officially gone vertical, with the standing of the outside walls!
(Status from 11/09/05): The concrete guns are blazing, shooting the "shot-crete" walls forming the perimeter of the new Saint Andrew's Hall. Wood is going vertical at the Saint Andrew's Center with framing activities in full swing. We are "coming out of the ground" on both buildings.
(Status from 11/02/05): The Saint Andrew's Center concrete slab is complete. Wood framing has already started, with the sub-contractors doing their "lay-out" work on the fresh (green) concrete. Weather permitting, walls will start going up in the next several days!
(Status from 10/27/05): Snaking conduit lines for both electric and plumbing criss-cross in the dirt at Saint Andrew's Hall and Saint Andrew's Center, soon to be buried under concrete slabs. These future lines form the backbone utilities for each building, to be jointly used by the Parish and School.
(Status from 10/10/05): Large wood frame panels are being put into place as the backforms for the "shot-crete" retaining wall of Saint Andrew's Hall. Steel rebar is like a plant climbing these forms, which will soon be buried in concrete. Underslab plumbing is almost complete on the Saint Andrew's Center, ready for it's concrete slab pour.
(Status from 09/27/05): The steel rebar is in the ground, ready for concrete to be poured for the foundations. The steel columns and beams are being designed right now. They are to be anchored into place on top of the footings, and will form the structural support for Saint Andrew's Hall and Saint Andrew's Center exterior.
(Status from 09/20/05): The Saint Andrew's community has a strong foundation, based on reason, teachings from scripture, and tradition, to handle the "weight" of the world. The strength of these beliefs is just like the foundations for the new buildings, Saint Andrew's Center and Saint Andrew's Hall, now under construction: wide, deep, and reinforced with steel.
(Status from 09/13/05): First the dirt is pounded and then scraped flat, just like a pancake. Then it is all dug up to put in foundations, water and sewer lines! Then it is pounded and scraped flat again! Our work progresses on Saint Andrew's Center & Saint Andrew's Hall to this ritualistic "dance to the construction beat."
(Status from 08/25/05): The Parish Hall/Gym is now just a memory and our "landscape" continues to change daily. The temporary structures to help us bridge time during this year, 2005/06, are in place and almost ready for our teachers and staff, and students of course. It's a very exciting time for parishioneers, parents and students of Saint Andrew's as we all watch this grow.
(Status from 08/18/05): Just like Joshua, our contractor circled the old Parish Hall/Gym, set the engines in gear with a great noise, and down came the walls! Gone is the old, with the new Saint Andrew's Hall to rise from the rubble. The new temporary facilities on the main campus and at West Field are almost ready for occupancy.
(Status from 08/11/05): Take photos now for your scrap book! Many exciting changes are occurring to our site. Existing temporary classrooms are being moved and new temporary classrooms are being installed. A temporary gym will be located on the basketball court at Crestbrook Field. The displaced Parish offices also have a new temporary home by the main entrance off Saratoga Avenue. Our demolition and underground utility work continues, culminating next week with the removal of the old Parish Hall/Gymnasium!
(Status from 08/04/05):Many construction activities are going on above and below ground level. Important events are also occurring behind the scenes, including review of drawings from various construction trades by the architect, submittals of RFI's (requests for information), relocation and installation of the temporary buildings for the parish and school, coordination with PG&E for new connections and upgraded service, and many meetings between contractors and subcontractors.
(Status from 07/28/05): The trees are gone and our site work is well underway; we'll ultimately be planting more trees than we've taken down. The lines are drawn and the trench digging has started; new water and utility services are under construction. A decision has been made to schedule the new parking lot for summer 2006, so there will be minimal disruption this summer.
(Status from 07/21/05): Building a Brighter Future has officially begun! Construction work has commenced and our terrain will be changing. Fencing, as required by the City of Saratoga, has been installed around the trees not being moved. Our contractor will begin 'underground' work to bring in new utilities, including water and sewage pipes, electricial power, gas, telephone and telecommunication lines.
(Status from 07/14/05): We are now in official construction mode. Work begins with the required tree protection fencing installation. With an official release date of July 15, 2005, to our construction company, XL Construction, there will be a significant increase in construction personnel on site this upcoming week coordinating and organizing their work schedules.
(Status from 07/07/05): Beginning the week of July 11, 2005 you will see construction activities, starting with the staking of the property indicating the limit lines for demolition. Not as readily seen, but equally important, will be the HazMat abatement in the existing Parish Hall/Gym building. This must be completed prior to actually tearing the building down.
The new Saint Andrews Hall has been Topped-Out! (2/16/06)
