Independent School Grades 6-8: Partnering Families with a Positive Atmosphere
We recognize that in grades six through eight, young people undergo a tremendous transformation. Critical connections begin to form in the brain, bodies stretch and change, and children begin to develop habits that will determine the character they will carry into adulthood. At Saint Andrew’s, we dig into this tremendous period of growth, partnering with families to create a positive atmosphere that fosters individual maturation and sense of place within a community.
Every aspect of the Middle School experience is designed to challenge and empower students while providing thoughtful support, including our advisory program, the academic curriculum, age-appropriate enrichment programs, after school athletics
and field trips.
Our teachers are experts in their field of instruction and connect with students on deep levels to facilitate learning, and have plenty of fun while doing it! Faculty members incorporate relevant, real world topics and examples into the classroom to make the discussion and lesson impactful. They employ a combination of traditional teaching methods, technologically advanced tools, and experiential learning to create approaches appropriate to achieve the day’s learning objective.
As children navigate the uncertain social and academic landscape that comes with the pre-teen and early-teen years, the guidance of the adult role models on our faculty is the reason why students look forward to coming to school each day. At a developmentally significant stage in their lives, they are embraced for who they are and stretched to grow as students and people of strong character.
High School Preparation
Students develop the necessary skills to be successful in the high school setting of their choice. Our younger students begin with basic skills and move on to higher order skills development as they advance through the curriculum. They enhance their ability to master developmentally appropriate skill sets such as critical/analytical thinking, logical argumentation, effective writing, and close observation. Students are exposed to a foundational core curriculum designed to sharpen skills and habits of mind upon which to build.
We encourage you to come experience this unique environment for yourselves. Meet our teachers, talk to our students, and watch how they work together to prepare for the journey to high school and beyond.
