Students Assist Area Non-profits

Service is part of who we are at Saint Andrew's

Tuesday, December 4, our Middle School students headed into the community for the annual fall Service Learning Day. By advisory, they went to various non-profit organizations and agencies around the community to donate their time and energy.

Some of the locations included: the Yu Ai Kai Center (for seniors), Live Oak Community Center, Santa Maria Urban Ministries, Sacred Heart Community Services, and Santee Elementary School in East San Jose. Doing whatever was asked, our students worked with young people, assisted elders, or helped by sorting and organizing food and clothing. Part of the day also included discussion of the work they had done and how it impacted them. The 6th and 7th graders returned to campus for a video presentation on service and then discussion in their advisories of their service that day.

Sincere thanks to the many parents who drove for the day and to Bonnie K., our Middle School Service Coordinator.
