Pre-K & TK Overview

The Saint Andrew's Pre-Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten programs for children aged four to five focus on nurturing students' natural curiosity and developing foundational skills needed for future success.

Our Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) program follows the recommendations of and is fully accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Pre-K serves children who will turn five years old between December 1 of the school start year and September 1 of the following year. It is designed to prepare students for a direct transition to Kindergarten.

Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program serves our older four-year-olds who will turn five on or before November 30 each year, and are developmentally ready for more formalized instruction before kindergarten. For some Pre-K students, an additional year of growth and preparation in TK may be recommended to best support their transition to Kindergarten. This personalized decision is always made in close partnership with families, ensuring the best possible start for each child.

The Curriculum in Both Pre-K and TK Supports Each of the Following Learning Domains:

  •  Cognitive (language, literacy, communication, math, science)
  • Physical (gross and fine motor)
  • Artistic (creative and musical)
  • Spiritual

Our Pre-Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten teachers, along with subject specialists, have created an engaging environment where students learn through a multi-sensory, guided instructional approach that promotes exploration, creativity, and social interaction. Structured activities are coupled with free explorations at various learning centers that are visited by the students throughout the day. These centers, often built around interdisciplinary themes, may include dramatic play, math, literacy, art, science, nature, fine motor, and construction, providing rich and diverse learning experiences. In addition, Pre-Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten students also receive specialized instruction in art, music, religion, Spanish, and physical education, along with visits to our science lab, library, and garden.
