Kindergarten Overview
At Saint Andrew's, Kindergarten is a full-day class designed to foster a love of learning in a nurturing, supportive environment.
Kindergarteners collaborate in their daily learning, which also enriches their sense of community and trust during a pivotal developmental stage. Each classroom has a highly qualified teacher and assistant teacher expert in providing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each student.
Based on early childhood development research and best teaching practices, the academic program is designed with a rich variety of curriculum and experiences that engage learners in mastering foundational academic skills. Our Kindergarten schedule includes studies in mathematics, language arts, science, and social studies, as well as art, music, religion, physical education, and Spanish. In all of the disciplines, teachers guide students to develop behaviors that enhance independent work while providing opportunities for students to make connections across the academic areas.
Children gain confidence and skills as they participate in several performing arts projects each year. Students visit our library each week, reading and checking out books, and benefiting from entertaining literary lessons from our librarian. Kindergarten students have the opportunity to interact with older students, fostering a community atmosphere, through our buddy program. Students also take part in age-appropriate service activities.
All students applying for our Kindergarten program are required to be 5 years old before September 1 of their entry year.
