Camp Sea Lab Adventures

Camp Sea Lab Adventures

The seventh grade Saint Andrew’s trip Camp Sea Lab was an absolutely amazing experience for us, and some of the things we did and learned we will never forget for the rest of our lives.

Starting off on Wednesday, we boarded a bus first thing in the morning and got going! On the way, we made a stop near a beach and we did a hike along some abandoned railroad tracks. We then had a debate about whether the railroad tracks should be rebuilt or made into a trail. The majority voted on making it a trail. When we got back on the bus, it was only a little bit farther until we arrived at Camp Sea Lab.

We put our bags away, met the counselors, and then we played some games on the field. We then went down to the beach and did an experiment where we researched sand crabs. Every group came up with a question, and we then searched for sand crabs and gathered data to answer our question. My group’s question was about what colors they came in. We found out that they were mostly gray and white.

On day two, we had breakfast and then we took a bus to go kayaking. The kayaking was very fun, and we saw so many adorable otters, seals, and sea lions. Everyone was in a kayak with one other person, so no one was alone. We even saw giant, purple crabs crawling around the rocks on the shore of where we were kayaking, a place called Elkhorn Slough. After a fun time kayaking out on the slough, we ate lunch and went down to the beach again. Afterwards we learned about great white sharks and how they use their senses of smell, taste, touch, vision, and hearing to locate prey. We did fun, interactive games and activities to expand our understanding of the senses. After all of this, we had a campfire down at the beach with everyone. We played games, sang funny songs, and much more.

After a good night’s sleep, we got up earlier the next day and  got ready to go whale watching. We took the bus out to the boat harbor, and then we got on a boat. The whole boat ride lasted about three hours and we were able to spot both gray and humpback whales! Sadly, that was the final part of this amazing journey, and after we ate lunch on the beach, we got back on the bus to head home. Overall, Camp Sea Lab was an amazing experience and we will never forget it!
